The photographer came with feathers
In 1907, German pharmacist Julius Neubronner was developing miniature cameras carried by homing pigeons. Combining lightweight construction with an automatic shutter, his system produced aerial photographs and briefly became an exhibition attraction and postcard business.
The story behind the mystery
The camera carrier was a homing pigeon. In 1907, German pharmacist Julius Neubronner was developing miniature cameras for his birds. A little rubber ball slowly lost air and released the shutter during flight: aerial photography with a pneumatic timer and a feathered transport system. [Original patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/DE204721C/de). The most charming evidence is a view of the Kronberg castle hotel with the photographer's own wing tips intruding into the picture. These were real photographs, and the invention reached paying audiences: at Dresden's photography exhibition in 1909, returning birds supplied images that were developed and sold as postcards. A bird's-eye view had become something you could post home. The scrapbook images are original visual reconstructions of the setting and documented equipment.

The soundtrack
Peter Koen, piano — Louis-Claude Daquin: Le Coucou. Koen's piano performance was recorded on 27 November 2013, according to his upload description. Daquin's bird-themed Le Coucou (The Cuckoo) provides a playful musical companion to the feathered photographers; this is a later performance and a thematic connection. SoundCloud oEmbed verified; the full public recording is embeddable and offers unencrypted streaming.
